PRESS RELEASE 04/2013

ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCT DECLARATION FOR TECHNICAL PARTS MADE OF PE, PP AND PU FOAMS

Just recently, the foam specialist ISO-Chemie prepared an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for its technical parts made of polyethylene, polypropylene and polyurethane foams. The technical parts can be used in different areas of application as packaging and protection for padding, impact cushioning, soft positioning as well as for thermal, noise and vibration insulation or for sealing.

ISO-Chemie has had its technical parts and the foam technology product range tested and certified by ift Rosenheim in accordance with European standard ISO 14025 and following EN 15804. The EPD presents a comprehensive balance of all the environmental impact related to the production of technical parts. The entire life cycle from production through installation and useful life phase to disposal was taken into account. The environment declaration also provides information about the use of energy and other resources, and the extent to which our technical parts contribute to the greenhouse effect, acid rain, over-fertilisation, destruction of the ozone layer and smog creation.

In addition, the EPD confirms that the technical parts from ISO-Chemie do not contain any substances of high concern in accordance with the REACH candidate list and, in particular, have hardly any negative impact on the environment when in use. It also provides confirmation of the fact that no emissions are discharged to the internal ambient air, water and soil, in compliance with the high requirements of Class EC1 PLUS of the GEV testing method which the technical parts made of PE, PP and PU foam are subject to. The foam products can also be reused several times and recycled following corresponding use and wear.

The company has been relying on environmentally friendly production methods which go easy on resources for years now, as well as on the use of harmless and recyclable materials, which is reflected in the positive ecological balance of the Environmental Product Declaration.

The EPD clearly shows that, with respect to their overall benefits, the sealing strips from ISO-Chemie are already extremely energy-efficient and that their use will have a sustainably positive effect on energy consumption and thus the environmental balance of buildings. The fact that the company has been relying on environmentally friendly production methods which go easy on resources for years now, as well as on the use of harmless and recyclable materials contributes to this of course. For example, our carbon footprint has been greatly reduced by installing a photovoltaic array on the roof of the ISO-Chemie company building. With this system we already produce around 1/5 of our own power consumption every year on average. This way the company is making its own contribution to achieving the climate goals resolved in the Kyoto Protocol and the subsequent Bali and Copenhagen Summits.

As a company certified to ISO 14001 and ISO 9001, ISO-Chemie aims to continually extend the company's environment-related activities and further improve the environmental impact of its products. The foam specialist sees the reduction of the CO footprint as an integral part of its environmental policy. For example, the installation of a photovoltaic array on the roof of the ISO-Chemie company building has contributed towards reducing the company's CO footprint. With this system we are currently producing around 1/5 of our own power consumption every year on average. This way ISO-Chemie is making its own contribution to achieving the climate goals resolved in the Kyoto Protocol and the subsequent Bali and Copenhagen Summits.
