The current Building Energy Act (GEG) and the EU Buildings Directive (EPBD) require permanently airtight building envelopes, with the EPBD even making zero-emission buildings the standard for new buildings. This goal cannot be achieved without high-performance joint sealing systems, as significant heat loss occurs through leaky connection points in the facade.
At the same time, product standard DIN 18542:2020 defines high minimum requirements for multifunctional tapes in stress groups MF1 and MF2. According to this standard, multifunctional tapes must reliably guarantee their promised values for driving rain and air tightness even at the largest joint width and smallest cut width.
Untight joints cause up to 40% heat loss and significantly increase heating energy requirements. In addition, leaks and seepage promote the formation of condensation and the infiltration of rainwater, which can result in moisture damage and mold.
